Susan Rea

Dr. Rea holds a PhD in Electronic Engineering from Cork Institute of Technology (2006) and is a Group Lead for Network Management at the Nimbus Centre in Cork Institute of Technology where her current research interests focus on IoT & CPS, specifically embedded infrastructure management using distributed ledger technology and cybersecurity for large scale next generation networks.

Susan has built a strategic research cluster in the area of Blockchain and developed it as a thematic research area within Nimbus that is supported through competitive funding awards with the focus being the application of blockchain across IoT ecosystems (buildings, districts, communities of interest), factories of the future and Industry 4.0. Her research interests are motivated by the Next Generation Internet initiative where the focus is to develop a more human-centric Internet, supporting the values of openness, decentralisation, inclusiveness and privacy preservation, giving the control back to the end-users, and in particular of their data.

  • Smart contract specification & verification including automated vulnerability detection
  • Engineering tools for Robust & Verifiable Blockchain Deployments
