Dr Andrew Hines is a lecturer in the School of Computing at Dublin Institute of Technology and an adjunct assistant professor at Trinity College Dublin.
Dr Hines’ research interests are in speech, audio and video signal processing. His PhD focused on speech and hearing technology where he developed a metric for predicting speech intelligibility for people with hearing impairments.
He has collaborated with Google, Inc. on research co-funded by Enterprise Ireland to develop metrics to estimate speech and audio quality for Voice over IP (VoIP).
Dr Hines represented Ireland on the management committee of Qualinet, an FP7 European COST Action, where he led a task force focused on using machine learning to develop Quality of Experience (QoE) models.
Outside of academia, Dr Hines spent a decade working in industry as director of engineering for software development companies in the airline and finance industries.
