Complexity and Control of Distributed Massive MIMO
There is a (false) dichotomy between taming and unleashing full potential of systems with rich dynamics, be that a chaotic or a complex system. The challenge of controlling them is not about cutting off their degrees of freedom, but at giving them a chance to take the system where we want it, in a way they do it the best (which is often a beautiful way, and we can sit back and enjoy the show). This is what always kept my attention in complex systems theory and control theory alike, and putting Massive MIMO into the context is a great challenge.
Our EDGE project COCODIMM aims at observing Massive MIMO as a complex system, providing suitable models and control algorithms for it and exploring the role of reversibility in complex systems control.
