KAITER – Knowledge-Assisted Interactive Translation, Editing and Revising

After having worked for more than 20 years as a translator, a reviser, a teacher of translation technologies and a translation company owner, I applied to a EDGE fellowship to research the interconnection between tools used by translators and the technology that tries to emulate their work (MT – Machine Translation). I am convinced that the current technology in MT can be better used as a support for translators, and that there is still a lot that needs to be explored in this domain for us to be able to take full advantage of its capacities. My project, KAITER, aims at developing a translation editor that supports the work of translators by estimating and suggesting their editing actions, integrated into a system that helps them manage their specialisation.
